Abstract
Congenital distichiasis is a rare abnormality in which a partial or complete accessory row of eyelashes grows out of or slightly posterior to the meibomi-an orifices and may occur sporadically or as an autosomal dominant condi-tion. It is a very difficult condition to treat successfully and several tech-niques have been described. We split eyelid along the gray line to expose distichiatic eyelash follicles and excised them with the aid of an operating microscope on a 33-year-old female with family history of congenital dis-tichiasis. Postoperatively, the corneal irritation was greatly improved and the patient was satisfied with functional and cosmetic results. There was no complication. We report that eyelid splitting and microsurgical excision for congenital distichiasis is an excellent surgical method.
