Abstract
Visual evoked response [VER], an objective method for evaluating visual function, is used in the diagnosis of optic nerve disorders and assessment of foveal function. VER is useful in determining visual acuity and refractive errors in amblyopia, binocular visual function impairment, and in children and subjects that are unable to communicate. VER is an electrical signal produced in the occipital area to visual stimuli and the results prove to be more specific and sensitive compared with ERG. The authors studied the changes in VER parameter in association with refractive errors and visual acuity using patterned stimuli in thirty normal male subjects [age range: 20-30 years]. In this study, the authors observed changes in the VER waves when the image of the stimulus defocuses and in eyes with visual acuity worse than 0.1, 0.03, significant decrease in amplitude was found in all check sizes and significant increase in latency was observed only in 16 x16 check size.
