Abstract
We performed a prospective study to evaluate the healing effect of Cysline(R) on corneal disease. Cysline(R) was a sulphurated amino acid with pyridoxine. Cystine(R) inhibited the collagenase activity by direct action on the collagenase molecule and reducing the disulphide bond in the enzyme molecule. In this study, Cysline(R) was orally administered to the twenty-one corneal disease patients six tablets per day for fourteen days and then grauually decreased in dosage. The subjective symptoms such as tearing, foreign body sensation, pain, photophobia, discharge were checked at one, three, seven, ten, fourteen, 1 month, 2 months. The objective signs such as cornneal thickness. flurosceine stain, corneal sensitivity were also checked above the same time. The results were as follows; 1. The mean administeration period was 20.18 days. 2. The visual acuities after Cysline(R) treatment were improved in fourteen patients(66.7%) and decreased in five patients(23.8%). Two patients were not changed(9.5%). 3. The subjective symptoms and objective signs were corelated to the wound healing rate. 4. None of the patients suffered the complications. The results of present work showed that the average rate of healing was enhaneed with Cysline(R).
