Abstract
We retrospectively evaluated the visual outcome and complications of anterior chamber intraocular lens [AC IOL] implantation surgery in 41 patients [43 eyes] from March 1996 to February 1999. Twelve cases had taken secondary AC IOL implantation, fourteen cases had taken extracapsular cataract extraction [ECCE] with AC IOL implantation, eight cases had taken phacoemulsification with AC IOL implantation, six cases had taken intracapsular cataract extraction [ICCE] with AC IOL implantation and three cases had taken removal of dislocated posterior chamber intraocular lens [PC IOL] with AC IOL implantation. Mean follow-up time was 18.8 +/- 10.8 months. Final available post-operative best-corrected visual acuity [BCVA] of 0.5 or better was achieved in 37 eyes [86.0%]. In secondary AC IOL implantation cases, final available postoperative BCVA was improved than preoperative BCVA and it was statistically significant [p<0.01]. Post-operative complications which result in final available post-operative BCVA less than 0.5 were a case [2.3%] of cystoid macular edema [CME], a case [2.3%] of aggravation of pre-existing diabetic retinopathy. Serious post-operative complications such as retinal detachment and bullous keratopathy were not found.
