| Abstract |
|
To evaluate the maculopathy resulting from electric burn, we reviewed the medical records of 752 electric burn patients who were admitted to the Department of General Surgery in General Hospital between January 1991 and July 1998. Among 1504 eyes of 752 patients, macular lesions developed in 14 eyes [0.93%] of 9 patients [1.20%] who were injured with the electric current of more than 22,000 volt. Ten eyes [0.81%] were of 6 patients had an electic current through their upper extremities. Also one eye [3.3%] of 1 patient through his back and 3 eyes [5.0%] of 2 patients through his head were identified. Pathological findings included macular lesions were macular edema [4 eyes], macular hole [4 eyes], and macular degeneration [6 eyes]. Other associated ocular complications included cataract [9 eyes], uveitis [4 eyes], and glucoma [2 eyes]. Three of 14 patients had final visual acuity of 0.5 or better,and five of then 0.1 or worse. |
